It was a sunny Friday afternoon on 27 June 2008, when Bugsta Malone, introduced Fundamental Skillz to the packed crowd who had gathered in the East Dance Arena, to see what the hype was about with this alternative Hip-Hop band.
The crowd waited with bated breath, as BID, Driftwood, Sam Skillz, Tejipt, The Painted Man and The Weapon made their way to the stage. The crowd roared as Tejipt shouted from the top of his lungs, "WHAT'S UP GLASTONBURY?!?!"
Before long, the opening track Press Play had been completed and the crowd were nodding their head to the dark riffs of Behind the Shades and breaking some moves to the eclectic Gossip.
Playing the biggest stage of their lives, FS did not disappoint. They whipped through their 45 minute set with such energy and passion that one could not be blamed if one thought that this was the last set they were ever going to play.
After the final song had been played and the crowd had given FS the standing ovation they so rightly deserved, Tejipt made his way to the front of the stage and begun to hand out free copies of their End of the Line EP. The only mistake FS made was the fact that they only brought 200 CDs to give out as these were gone in the space of five minutes.
"Where next for Fundamental Skillz?" shouted an excited member of the audience. The reply: "ZOO Festival 2008", where these six individuals aim to better the performance they gave at Glastonbury. They know they must, for they know that after such a performance, next year could see them on the Pyramid Stage. Why not? For the sky is the limit.
